Deirdre DeWeese Named Columbus Business First Executive of the Year
Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland leaders continue to earn recognition across the Columbus business community, reflecting the strength, impact, and influence of the organization’s executive team.
At Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland (GSOH), leadership excellence is not the exception—it’s an expectation.
Year after year, members of the organization’s executive team have been recognized for their contributions across the community. Most recently, Deirdre DeWeese, Chief Development Officer, was named an Executive of the Year by Columbus Business First and honored at an awards ceremony on April 28.
The award celebrates leaders who demonstrate exceptional innovation, impact, and influence. Deirdre’s work exemplifies all three.
Driving Transformational Growth
Deirdre has played a central role in shaping GSOH’s long-term strategy and strengthening its culture of philanthropy. As a member of the executive team, she has aligned fundraising efforts with mission-driven outcomes This ensures growth directly fuels opportunities for girls across the region.
“Deirdre has a remarkable ability to turn vision into progress,” said Tammy Wharton, President and CEO of GSOH. “She brings people together in powerful ways and leads with both purpose and heart. That balance has become a hallmark of her approach, ensuring that our donors feel connected to the mission while maximizing the impact of every contribution.”
Her results are both measurable and meaningful. From 2017 to 2023, donations to GSOH increased by 90 percent, and revenue from special events doubled. Along the way, she modernized the organization’s philanthropic infrastructure, implementing stronger donor stewardship practices and data-driven decision-making.
Elevating the Fundraising Profession
And Deirdre’s impact extends beyond GSOH.
A longtime member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Central Ohio Chapter, she was named Outstanding Professional Fundraiser in 2025. This award recognized her 26-year career marked by integrity, innovation, and mentorship.
