Silver Award | Girl Scouts

You have the power to improve your community through action

Ready to help your community and earn one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting? Cadettes can work in a small group of up to 4 fellow Girl Scouts or work on their own. To earn the Silver Award, you will research an issue you care about, make a plan to address it, and then take action to improve your community.

The Silver Award does require viewing the training, taking the quiz and preapproval by council. Need a refresher on the difference between community service and take action? We've got you covered!

Please Note:

Your project should make a difference and have a lasting impact! The following projects will no longer be approved:

Little Free Libraries
Blessing Boxes or other projects that ONLY focus on donation drives and the collection of items
Pollinator gardens (Education projects about conservation topics are encouraged but creating a garden or habitat without education or sustainability will not be approved)
Fundraising projects for other organizations
Buddy Benches (collection of materials and construction of benches)
Projects that take place on council or camp properties
Badge and patch programs for scouting audiences
Gaga Ball Pit Construction Projects

You can become a Silver Award Girl Scout if you:

Are in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade
Are a registered Girl Scout Cadette
Have completed the Bronze Award, a Cadette Leadership Award, or a Cadette Journey

Resources

Training

Training is required before a Girl Scout or group of Girl Scouts can begin a Silver Award project. Girl Scouts can either view online training materials or attend an in-person training workshop.

A Silver Award Training module is now available in gsLearn for troop volunteers and registered members to access for their Girl Scouts. Search "Silver Award" in the Content Library and watch the training and complete the knowledge checks at the end of each module. Once you have watched the training modules, have your volunteer or caregiver email highestawards@gsoh.org to confirm you've completed this step.

You can also attend quarterly in-person training workshops hosted by our council. These workshops are listed in myGS and are free to attend, but registration is required.

Deadlines

Proposals and Final Reports: Proposals and/or Final Reports are accepted on a rolling basis. The monthly deadline for the upcoming meeting is the 15th of each month. Proposals and/or Final Reports received after the 15th will be reviewed the following month.

Highest Awards Review Committee (HARC) Meetings: Usually the fourth Monday of the month. When your proposal is received, you'll get an email with the date of the upcoming meeting in which it will be reviewed.

For briding Cadettes:

Project Proposal: May 15th of the 8th grade year
Final Report: September 15 of the year they bridge to Senior
