Columbus, Ohio — In a celebration of leadership and impact, Amy Franko, Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland (GSOH), was honored with the prestigious Nonprofit Board Executive of the Year Award at the 2024 Medical Mutual Pillar Awards for Community Service. The Pillar Awards recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses that bridge the gap between the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, making a significant difference in the community.
The award underscores Franko's outstanding contributions to GSOH, and her transformative leadership that has left an indelible mark on the organization and the community at large.
Tammy Wharton, GSOH President and CEO, presented the award to Franko, saying, "Amy’s vision and unwavering commitment to the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland have set a benchmark for excellence in nonprofit board leadership. Her strategic approach, particularly in steering the Dream Big Transformational Initiative through challenging times, exemplifies her dedication to empowering and supporting the next generation of women leaders.”
The Pillar Award nomination highlighted Franko’s pivotal role during her four-year term as Chair of the GSOH Board of Directors. Notably, her governance leadership on the $16 million capital campaign for the new Dream Big STEM center at Camp Ken Jockety has positioned GSOH as a beacon for girls aspiring to enter the STEM field.
Under Franko’s guidance, GSOH consistently ranked in the top 20% of 110 Councils nationwide in key growth and performance metrics. Her strategic vision for board development has resulted in a more diverse and engaged group of leaders, laying the groundwork for the organization's success.
“Throughout my career, and especially as an entrepreneur, giving back and community service have always been at the core of what I do,” Franko said. “No matter where we’re at in our leadership or life journey, all of us have the capacity to give back and pay it forward. I'm honored that I have held a board leadership role, especially as part of the Dream Big Transformational Initiative, and I am grateful to GSOH, Medical Mutual, and Smart Business for this award.”
